Suga’s Revelation about his Alter Ego Agust – D

If you’re new to the BTS X Army world, then you must be thinking about who Agust-D is. What’s his name’s significance and how it belongs to the purple world?

The K-pop boy band ‘Bangtan Boys known as BTS’ is a group of 7 attractive and talented South Korean individuals. After their first, debut in 2013 with the song ‘No More Dream’ from the album ‘2 Cool for Skool’, the band rose to meteoric heights changing the whole dimensions of the Music and Entertainment Industry.

Throughout the years they have achieved being titled as music sensations of the world with their hard work and passion. They have won billions of followers and built a strong community of their fandom Army.

Not only as bandmates but also as individual artist they set unachievable heights in their solo careers, reminding the world time and again about their dominance in the music industry.

In their individual careers among the 7 boys, six of them chose either their real names or stage ones but one artist surprised the world with a name that has been an integral part of the BTS community.

But who among them is AgustD? So the answer is Min Yoongi a.k.a Suga of BTS.

‘MIN YOONGI’ is his original name and his stage name is ‘SUGA.’ He is a producer, songwriter, composer, and rapper who made his first debut as a solo rapper on 15th August 2016 with his mixtape titled Agust-D.

But why Agust- D?

Suga belongs to a small town in Seoul named ‘Daegu.’

He wanted to represent and honor his town for his fame and success and hence chose the name Agust-D, which if spelled backwardly stands for D-tsuga. The letter D stands for Daegu and tsuga means Town and his stage name in the band. When put together, it will be ‘Daegu Town Suga’

What is more interesting about this name is how Suga informed about the shift in his personality just by changing the name. In one of the interviews with Time Magazine, Suga revealed that the personalities of both of his characters differ widely with two words in common ‘Music Dreams and Hope’

Suga quoted;

The difference is that there is a lot more that I can openly express and that I can show a more raw side to myself [with Agust D]. What’s similar is that both sing of dreams and hope.

He is the third member after Jin and J-hope to serve in the mandatory military conscription in South Korea. He started his duty on Friday 22nd September, 2023, and also informed the Army on Weverse about his departure.

“I’ll faithfully serve and come back. Please stay healthy, and let’s meet all again in 2025!”

Suga Wrote

Suga will serve the country as a social service agent as he was found to be medically unfit for regular combat duty due to his shoulder surgery in 2020.
